Statement reportedly issued after several minutes of visible discomfort
Alberta officials have reportedly begun the difficult process of acknowledging that the Montreal Canadiens may now be Canada’s team, following Montreal’s latest playoff win and the ongoing absence of any other Canadian options.
Sources describe the mood across the province as tense but patriotic, with several residents admitting they do want a Canadian team to win, while also asking whether it had to be “that Canadian team.”
One Alberta man told TNRN, “I support Canada. I just didn’t realize I’d be asked to grow as a person.”
Officials say support for Montreal will remain temporary, conditional, and spoken only in low voices.
A formal statement is expected later this week, pending approval from several uncles, two sports radio callers, and one guy still wearing a Flames jersey from 1989.
