Sarnia’s municipal race took an unexpected turn this week after a pothole on Exmouth Street reportedly announced its intention to run for mayor.
The candidate, whose campaign is still in its early stages, is said to be running on a platform of lower taxes, stronger infrastructure awareness, and free alignment checks for all residents.
Several drivers say the pothole has already made a strong impression, primarily on their suspension systems.
City officials have not yet confirmed whether a pothole is eligible to run for office. However, some residents appear open to the idea. One local voter reportedly said, “At least this one is already familiar with council delays.”
The pothole has not released a full platform at this time, though campaign signs are expected once someone can safely approach the area without getting a soaker.
Political analysts say the campaign raises important questions about leadership, infrastructure, and whether depth should be considered experience.
